Keeping your community safe

The old adage “if you see something, say something” is so important in a bustling community like Alamar. Our vibrant, growing area has residents of all ages and stages living here, not to mention visitors and builders coming and going daily.

It’s important to keep your eyes, ears, and intuition on alert, and speak up when something seems amiss. Know what’s normal for your area. What cars are usually parked on the street? Who’s typically out and about in your area and at what times?

Know the rhythm and routine of your area. When you do notice something concerning, dangerous,or just plain peculiar, there are several key places to report your concerns.

Avondale police department

Important: If you or someone else is in immediate danger or you witness a crime in progress, always call 9-1-1 first. If you’re in a situation where calling is not possible, you can text 9-1-1.

It’s important to report any and all suspicious activity you see. Property damage or a strange car at the park? An alarming visitor at your front door? If you see something out of the norm or that makes you feel uncomfortable, but you’re not in immediate danger, call the Avondale Police non-emergency line at 623-333-7000 or submit a crime report online.

Vandalism

Alamar residents, we need your help to keep our community beautiful and graffiti-free! Did you know that graffiti is the top form of vandalism?

Our beloved community art installations are unique treasures that enhance our neighborhood. They’re costly and tough to replace, so show your support by reporting any vandalism you witness. For removal, use the new AviWise reporting system or email codecompliance@avondaleaz.gov

Vandalism can be reported by calling the non-emergency line at 623-333-7000 or by submitting a crime report online.

School zone safety

As school is back in session, Avondale’s motorcycle officers are on high alert in school zones to ensure everyone’s safety. Remember to obey speed limits and all traffic laws, especially near schools and residential areas where children are present.

Speeding fines in school zones can be hefty, ranging from $230 – $505, and double in school zones. Always stop for crossing guards, wait for clear crosswalks, and never pass a stopped school bus with flashing red lights.

Parents, please ensure your children cross streets safely, buckle up, and wear helmets when biking to school. We appreciate your efforts in making the community a safer place for kids.
