Tips to keep Alamar’s pets & people safe all year

Alamar is home to many four-legged friends and their families who care for them, so we’ve put together a refresher on the ordinances and etiquette that can help keep your community’s pets and people safe year round.

  • Make sure to keep your dog on a leash (no longer than 6 feet in length) unless you’re inside the fenced areas of the dog park. It’s the law, and city of Avondale parks rangers, police officers, and animal control officers will issue fines.

  • Help keep Alamar’s neighborhood parks poop-free (our shoes thank you). If you happen to leave home without a potty pick-up bag, there are waste bags and receptacles on hand at the park side pet stations.

  • Avoid confrontations or injuries by immediately removing aggressive or upset dogs from the park. While Alamar’s dog park is a place to bring Fido for a little off-the-leash freedom, not all pups may be ready to play. If an incident does occur, it should be reported ASAP to Maricopa County Animal Care and Control at 602-506-7387.

  • Keep the playground area for the two-legged kids. Some kids (and adults) are afraid of dogs, and some dogs are unsure of kids, so it’s best to keep all dogs away from playground structures so there is no chance of injury or anxiety.

  • Consistent barking or howling is considered disturbing the peace and is unlawful. While it’s best to first chat with your neighbor about the issue, if that doesn’t do the trick (or the problem gets worse) it could be time to contact the city of Avondale Police Department’s Animal Control Division who can enforce noise ordinance violations. The City doesn’t accept anonymous complaints, but will do their best to keep your info confidential.

  • Register and license your pet with Maricopa County Animal Care and Control. For added peace of mind, consider microchipping your pets, too. If your dog does get loose, check the Maricopa County Animal Care and Control’s found pet locater that includes a photo of each pup and a map of where they were picked up.

  • Questions? Contact Avondale Police Department’s Animal Control Division at 623-333-7001. In addition to noise complaints, they’ll also help with aggressive animals, animal bites, animal cruelty, injured animals, and contained animals. Officers are on duty during regular business hours seven days a week, excluding holidays. You can also leave a message on the hotline 24/7 at 623-333-7012.

We hope your pets enjoy being active and integrated members of the community. Let’s pledge to be responsible pet owners and continue to create harmony among the animals and people around us.
