#creamofthecrop: Michelle Cordero

Meet Michelle. She’s your fa-BOO-lous neighbor who recently hosted the first ever Spooktacular Alamar Event, a wickedly fun Halloween gathering at Starlight Park for ghosts and ghouls of all ages.

“My family and I have called Alamar home for six months, and I just love the diversity within the neighborhood and all the opportunities for community gatherings,” says Michelle.

Bringing neighbors together is what Alamar living is all about, especially when it happens in our beautiful community parks. And we’re all about celebrating the people, like Michelle, who offer their time and talent to make the magic happen.

“When we purchased our lot right next to a park, we knew we wanted to be involved in the community and host block parties to bring our neighbors together,” says Michelle. “Putting on an event like this time took time and resources, but it was also a whole lot of fun.”

“I have a family of six, with my husband and myself, our two boys—one in college and one in elementary school—and two small dogs. I work from home as real estate finance manager, and I also own a small catering business specializing in authentic Mexican soul food. I love (love!) to cook. It’s my own way of showing love for people.”

Michelle’s creativity, talent, and hard work took Halloween night in Alamar to another level with frights and delights for all. In a fun twist on the popular trunk-or-treat, the event had a table-and-treat where neighbors decked out tables with Halloween-inspired décor and brimming bowls of candy. Congratulations goes out to Gemma Nazerau (first place) and Nicole Wilson (second place) for setting up the most tricked out tables.

Costumed kids and adults filled up on cotton candy, popcorn, and other yummy treats, played yard games, went on a scavenger hunt, danced to festive music, took home sweet giveaways, soaked in the scary-good décor, and even spotted Salem’s own Sanderson Sisters getting in on the fun. There was so much excitement during the spooky scavenger hunt that Michelle missed grabbing the names of the two winners, so if you’re out there, well done!

“I would love to continue this tradition in Alamar for many years to come and I look forward to more community input and participation for next year’s event.”
